Paula Abdul appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman this week, and it was kind of clear she didn’t take her meds before she arrived.

In the wake of the suicide of her stalker, Paula Goodspeed, sources claimed Paula has plans to leave her post as a guest judge on American Idol. Paula spoke out the press, claiming she begged Idol producers to not let Goodspeed audition in front of her for season five, because the disturbed woman had been sending letters to Paula “for almost 18 years.”

“She had been writing disturbing letters for 17 years, almost 18 years,” Abdul, 46, told Walters. “We had restraining orders at times.”

On the day of Goodspeed’s audition, “Idol” producers told Abdul they had found — and were about to bring in — a fan who was “crazy about” Paula.

Abdul objected. “I said, ‘This girl is a stalker of mine. Please do not let her in.’ Everyone knew. I was shaking.”

The producers ignored her, saying that they wanted the “entertainment value.”

Goodspeed committed suicide in front of Paula’s house last month. Paula discussed the incident with Dave this week, but attempted to skirt the issue when Dave suggested she should sue Idol producers and Fox for allowing Goodspeed to get near her.

I smell a lawsuit. And now I also understand why they brought in a new judge for this upcoming season.
