Following her head injury on a Quebec ski slope, Natasha Richardson’s family gathered at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC for what sources described as a “vigil.”

Natasha’s mother, Vanessa Redgrave, and husband, Liam Neeson, reportedly came to say goodbye to the 45 year actress, who is not expected to recover from the traumatic brain injury.

“There is no chance,” a family friend told People on Tuesday night. “It is a fact that her heart is beating but she is brain dead.”

Her dire condition, doctors described it to those close to Richards as “leakage of blood between the brain and skull,” the friend says, has the actress’s family coming to grips with potentially having to make an unthinkably difficult decision. “It’s not official yet,” says the friend, “but they basically will detach her.”

Liam, who has two sons with Natasha, is expected to make an announcement regarding the accident sometime later today.

I’m seriously just ready to cry about this. I don’t know why it’s having this effect on me but it’s really just so sad.
    I’ll pray for them. :(

I feel the same way Ta2dMom - I just can’t shake this horribly sad feeling. I usually don’t get so emotionally connected with actors or actresses’ deaths - but this has really floored me. I think it is because she has always come off as so humble, so approachable and kind and she and her husband always seemed so genuinely happy to be with each other - and her poor children and family - Oh! just devastating!

You know this has to been one of the most hardest things in this families entire lives to deal with this tradgedy in the public eye. I’m one of these people that believe in actors lives should be shared with the ‘tv world’ and us fans that have helped them achieve this status, until a time such as this, gee talk about an awakening and change in my feelings, I can never be so selfish-thinking ever again, these people have feelings just as all of us, and I hope that we can give them the privacy they so deserve and need, my heart and prayers go out to this beautiful family.
