Angelina Jolie’s doctor confirmed that the actress gave birth to twins, a girl and a boy, on Saturday at the Lenval Hospital in Nice. Dr. Michael Sussman said Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline were delivered via C-section, and doing well.

“The babies are doing well. The operation went just perfectly,” Dr. Sussmann told People Sunday. “Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side. He was there and all was well.”

Sussmann confirmed the Nice Matin newspaper report that Jolie gave birth to a boy, Knox Leon, and a girl, Vivienne Marcheline, by Cesarean section on Saturday night. Knox weighed 5.03 lbs, and Vivienne 5 lbs.

“The mother and father are very, very happy,” Sussmann told People.

The doctor told the Associated Press that the Cesarean was moved forward “for medical reasons” so that the babies could be born “in the best conditions.” He also said Jolie is expected to stay in the hospital for a few days.

Knox and Vivienne are the fifth and sixth children for Angelina and Brad; the couple also have two sons Maddox, 6, and Pax, 4, and two daughters, Zahara, 3, and Shiloh, 2.

Congratulations to the new parents. I hope all goes well in the next few days so they can return to thier home and enjoy thier days ahead. Also I hope a nasty C-section scar and baby weight doesn’t ruin Angie’s chances at future mid-rif photo ops.

What’s up with having all boy names that have an X in them? I’ve never seen the letter x used so much.
I don’t know why that bugs me. But it does.

    Thank you, Alyk.

Its such a pleasure to see the kids described as ’sons and daughters’ rather than ‘adopted sons and adopted daughters’. As an adoptee (and adopter), I appreciate it. Once you get those kids into your life and heart, they couldn’t be any more ‘real’ than bio kids, trust me.

Thank you - you made my day.

Neurophillly, I’m adopted as well, and I can’t fathom growing constantly being referred to as “the adopted one.”

I’m glad I’m not the only one who is bothered by the labeling!

    xoxo
