Russell Brand, who proved to be one of the most annoying host in VMA history, spent most of his on-air time last night cracking jokes about purity rings. While I enjoy a good virgin joke now and then, the Brit comic turned the awards show into a three-hour virgin joke.
During his opening monologue, Brand (a confessed former sex addict) repeatedly joked about the Jonas Brothers’ purity rings, saying they should take advantage of their celeb status to get lucky.
“I didn’t meant to take it lightly,” he said. “I don’t want to piss off teenage fans.” Later, he added, “Promise rings, I’m well up for it. [But] a bit of sex, it never hurt anybody.”
Jordin Sparks, one of the virgins in the crowd, took offense to Russell’s jokes, and before introducing T.I. to the stage, voiced her displeasure.
“I just have one thing to say about promise rings. It’s not bad to wear a promise ring,” Sparks, 18, told the crowd, off-the-cuff, “because not everybody, guy or girl, wants to be a slut.”
Well, Jordin, you can get your swerve on without being classified as a slut, but considering Russell slept with Courtney Love, yes, he probably is a slut.

I dont think it was a good idea to have him as the host, purely because u guys dont get our sense of humour, but that purity ring thing is a load of crap!

Firstly, I am by no means a Jonas Brothers fan. However, I do think Russell Brand went to far. I’m not going to lie, the first time… it was kind of funny. BUT AFTER TWO HOURS OF IT, I wanted to shoot myself. And him.
No one cares if they don’t have sex. It isn’t a big deal. I mean the little one is only 15! Clearly he shouldn’t be having sex anyway.
I think it was in poor taste for Russell Brand to spend the entire night making fun of them. Not only was he completely not funny… at all. But what’s it to him if they don’t choose to have sex before marriage? I know it’s a shocker… but some people in the world STILL do want to save themselves for that special person.
So more power to Jordin Sparks for sticking up for them and everyone else that wears chastity rings! What she did was really brave, considering all the bad publicity that she could’ve gotten from it… so I applaud her efforts to shut up quite possibly the worst VMA host ever.

I have just finnished watching the awards. I am glad to see that alot of you Americans find him about as funny as a fart at a funeral.

I honestlty think it is moot point to consider this an american-british thing. I am American and I think Russell Brand is HILARIOUS, yes his humor is different, and maybe it’s because he’s british, but that doesn’t mean you have to be from a particular place to get him.
I thought the joke was very funny, a bit stretched out sure, but why not talk about the Jonas brothers? Everyone else in the world is. If he wanted to JOKE(keyword) about the fact that they choose to be virgin he can do so because…..(and here’s the kicker)…this is America and we have freedom of speech! I thought it was rude of Jordin to go up there and call him out for it, it was all in good fun. If she choses to wear a ring, it’s a personal thing not something she should shove in people’s faces.
Just like people should not be judged for choosing to wait until marriage to have sex, people shouldn’t be judged for choosing to have sex before marriage. I’ve done it, it’s great and i don’t feel like less of a person for doing so.
In the end it’s stupid to solely attack Russell for his joke, don’t forget they have to be approved by MTv before he can say it. To sum it up: russell=genius, jordin=annoying, jo bros=amazing, vmas=kinda a let down.

Russell Brand is lame. The audience wasn’t even laughing. Most Americans DO appreciate British humor (Monty Python, AbFab, etc.). The guy is just a some lucky douchebag who got a bit of fame. His ass will be gone in a year or two and no one will remember him. I am glad Jordin Sparks ripped him a new one. Its like it is acceptable to ridicule anything that is religious, or conservative, but not vice-versa? He is the one who should be ashamed…unfunny a-hole.

If you lived in England and really knew Russells work like we do you would understand he is funny, and quite sexy, Excuse me JRE, russell has been around for years and he is one of the most famous ppl in the UK.
