Kate Winslet spoke out against rumors that she had going to a diet clinic in Los Angeles. After a British magazine printed the rumor, the actress announced plans to sue over the allegations.

The allegations, which were printed in the glossy magazine Grazia, are “completely untrue,” Winslet told reporters on the red carpet at the BAFTA awards in London on Sunday.

“I’m going to fight for myself. I don’t want people thinking that I would ever go to a diet doctor, I would ever buy into that stuff,” Winslet, who is nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in Little Children, told a BBC radio interviewer. “I never have done, I never will.”

Last week, Grazia printed a story alleging that the actress visited the Chinese Healing Institute in Santa Monica to help with neck pain, and also to lose weight.

On Monday, attorneys for the actress at Schillings law firm in London said proceedings for libel were being issued. Winslet’s rep, Sara Keene, underlined her client’s feelings, saying: “Kate is angry and upset about it because it is an issue she feels very strongly about. She will be issuing legal proceedings. She wants to get the message out there.”

“I will continue to say what I feel about this issue of women being thin and emaciated. It’s just out of control,” she said Sunday. “I know I’m a role model to young women. It’s a role that I take very, very seriously and I would never want anyone to ever think I was a hypocrite in doing something like going to a diet doctor, for goodness sake. I mean, it’s really, really ridiculous.”

The magazine refused to comment, claiming the suit is a matter for their attorneys to handle.

She looks like she needs a “diet doctor”! She’s pretty chunky by Hollywood standards (and elsewhere, too.)

  2. Reggie says:

Three Cheers for Kate! She is beautiful and trim via American standards (where the average size of a woman is 14). Women are lucky that there are a few brave actresses who rebel against the heroin chic thinness that is the current rage amount actresses.

  3. Layla says:

Wow Ann, either you suffer from an eating disorder or are just plain hypocritical. She’s gorgeous and I commend her fight to be a POSITIVE role model for anyone who looks up to Hollywood types…
Rudely put, shut your stupid trap. Or open it, and fill it with some food instead of yapping about other people needing to go see a ‘diet doctor’.

You made me howl on that one. Bravo, bravo…well done indeed.

    And phucking DITTO!!!

  5. cynic says:

She looks fit. One does not need to have bones sticking out everywhere to be thin. I like that she is aware that, fair or not, once you’re in the public eye, people will look up to you in some way. She’s taking responsibility for her image and keeping it positive, unlike most Hollywood whores (Britney, anyone?) We need more sincere and talented people in showbiz, and I say more power to her.

Really?? Jesus, no wonder I have to fight with my 11 year old daughter to eat because she thinks she’s “fat”. Bullshit. All around!

    I think Kate looks amazing.

methinks that Ann is simply a troll trying to get a rise out of people.

if not, then she’s a stupid, out-of-touch-with-reality douchebag.

THIS IS WHAT HEALTHY LOOKS LIKE.

  8. Sherry says:

She is perfect - why on earth would she ever diet??? I am impressed by her beauty and her personal standards for a healthy body image. Bravo Kate!!!

  9. rebecca says:

whats a matter ANN, you don’t want to defend your remarks. Yeah, better you crawl back under that moldy rock you came out of.

  10. Gweny says:

She is the most beautiful and talented woman or man to set foot on this planet. She is absolutely stunning and doesnt look like everyone else in hollywood who with low self esteem. She has chosen to be real as opposed to existing on red bull, coke and cigarettes.

  11. eclair says:

She looks great and at her age, were she any thinner, it would start showing on her face - better to have some lovely rounded edges and a full, youthful face than look like a haggard mess when you hit your forties (i.e. Teri Hatchet-face). She’s slim, totally healthy, toned, and looks great on the red carpet. And a fantastic actress too!

  12. Karen says:

She looks gorgeous, and has NEVER been fat. Anyone who says she is fat must have rocks in their head.

I wonder if she even went to the “Healing Institute”, and they just embellished it, or if she never went at all?
