Us Weekly gave a few details about Angelina Jolie’s newest adoption. The mag claimed the three year old boy was hesitant to meet his new family, but Angelina and older son Maddox did their best to comfort him.
According to Reuters, Jolie arrived at the Tam Bihn orphanage outside Ho Chi Minh City with her 5-year-old son Maddox and the pair were greeted by roughly 20 children dressed in traditional Vietnamese tunics, and offering flowers.
Before leaving with her new son, Pax Thien Jolie, the actress left a message in the orphanage visitor’s book.
“Thank you for taking such wonderful care of my son,” she wrote. “He has been with you for years. I’m sure he will miss your beautiful caring staff as much as you will miss him.”
The three-and-a-half-year-old boy was known at the orphanage as Pham Quang Sang before Jolie renamed him.
According to the orphanage’s director, Nguyen Van Trung, “He’s the smartest and cleverest among the kids.”
“I was a bit worried in the morning,” Trung admitted to Us. “When Sang saw Jolie and two of her big bodyguards, he moved back and cried. Jolie kneeled down and gradually went closer to him. It took about 20 minutes for her to reach him.”
He added that “after Jolie made acquaintance with him, he cheered up and trusted her right away.”
Maddox also attempted to soothe the child by holding his hand. Trung says that while Sang was crying as he was carried into the car, having Maddox on hand was a relief.
“It’s lucky to have the presence of her other son [Maddox] who was very friendly to Sang,” Trung tells Us.
Aww, that’s really sweet. The family is expected to arrive back in the US by the weekend.

HA! “…when Sang saw Jolie and two of her big bodyguards, he moved back and cried.” Yea, he was probably afraid that she was going to eat him…with those HUGE lips of hers.

This bitch needs to be stopped. To all those adoptive parents waiting years for their adoptions to be finalized, give up now! Jolie will have adopted your child before your papers are finished… pathetic abuse of the celebrity this is!
Yeah, yeah, loonies…sit and spin…!

Yeah, I’ve kind of thought the same thing. I have a homegirl who is in the process of adopting from Vietnam, but she was told it would take about 18 months to make it through the process. So it’s kind of a bummer to see Angie with a new kid on her hip every few months, but my friend has to go through insane lengths just to start the process of getting a child.

We need a mandatory two-week wait (a cool-down period!), just like guns. That way, this crazy bitch won’t take a kid home every fucking time she smells a new one. Jesus Christ!

Oh come on you guys! Angie is a great mom, and I think it’s so sweet that she took Maddox with her to help bring Pax back. How endearaing that Maddox held Pax’s hand to try to comfort him. I’m sure Pax will be extremely grateful to have him as a big brother.

It does not appear sensitive to rename a three year old, who must already know his own name, especially to change from a Vietnamese first name to a Latin one. This seems disrespectful of both the boy’s culture and language, and perhaps also designed to accomodate the receiving family rather than the child. Did she just want to match/nearly rhyme with the name “Maddox”? This does not seem proper.

I agree with GM - that was my first thought. He’s 3 and he’s got a name. Seems really arrogant to rename a child at that age.
