We finally have our first official shot of Cate Blanchett as Bob Dylan in the upcoming film “I’m Not There,” Todd Haynes’ Dylan biopic. The film stars seven different actors as Dylan, and will “embody a different aspect of the musician’s life and work.”
Other actors portraying Dylan in the movie (which will premiere next month at Cannes) include Christian Bale, Richard Gere, and Heath Ledger. Should be interesting.

jj is right all the way. Dylan has never been about being hot anyway. That doesn’t mean he was/is not attractive to a lot of people. I just don’t think he goes around trying to be HOT. Marketing sneeksin everywhere!

You folks should go look at some pics of Bob in mid ‘65. Cate is the spitting image. Perfect.

Actually, I love the idea of a woman playing Dylan during his androgynous period. If Blanchett can bring it off, it will be a brilliant coup. I can’t think of any male actor who could do justice Dylan during that period. He was just too weird and unique, like someone from another planet.
That said, I am really dubious about having five (or however many) other actors playing Dylan at different stages of his career, scariest of all Richard Gere. I think Dylan fans will either puke or die laughing.
Of course, the film could prove me dead wrong, but I think a better go would have been to stay with the 60’s Dylan through the whole film. It was his most remarkable and lyrically brilliant period anyway. Trying to do justice to every stage of Dylan’s career would take six different movies.
