During an interview with New York Magazine, Katie Couric admitted she has made mistakes during her short tenure as anchor of the “CBS Evening News.” Perhaps chief among those mistakes was slapping one of her co-workers after he used a mundane word that she didn’t care for.
Her frustration boiled over in June, after news editor Jerry Cipriano used the word “sputum,” a word she detests, in a piece about tuberculosis. Couric subsequently slapped Cipriano “over and over and over again” on the arm, according to eyewitnesses.
“I sort of slapped him around,” Couric admits. “I got mad at him and said, ‘You can’t do this to me. You have to tell me when you’re going to use a word like that.’ I was aggravated, there’s no question about that.”
Katie claimed she has since made up with the news editor, and the slapping incident has since become a “running joke” between the two of them. Um, that’s great, but Mr. Cipriano should have filed charges against her elderly ass. Since when can someone get away with slapping a co-worker? I call shenanigans.
