According to the New York Times (who apparently have too much time on their hands), Britney Spears was pushed into performing at the MTV Video Music Awards by her entertainment lawyer. Although Britney’s record label, Jive, was reluctant to allow her to appear on live television, attorney Gary Stiffelman pushed for the performance, claiming it would be excellent exposure for Britney’s November 13 album.

It probably sounded like a good idea at the time. Under the supervision of her new management team, Spears, 25, began to get in shape for the show last
spring, hitting the Millennium Dance Studio in North Hollywood, California for choreography training. MTV and Jive received updates on her progress, but Spears fired Stiffelman shortly after the VMA preparations began, according to the Times.

Of course, all that hard work was for naught when Spears’ poor habits got the best of her, resulting in a lackluster performance at the VMAs. Adding insult to injury was Sarah Silverman, who joked during the telecast that Spears’s sons Jayden, 1, and Sean, 2, were “adorable mistakes.”

But Jive wasn’t laughing at Silverman. The Times also reports that the record label sent a harsh note to MTV, bashing them for letting the comedienne deliver those low blows.

Am I really the only one who stills thinks Sarah Silverman is funny?

I think sarah silverman is funny.

I think she’s hilarious about 90% of the time, but I found her “adorable mistakes” way out of line. If someone said that about my (non-existant) kids, or my nephews, I’d punch them in the mouth. I thought that it was in really miserable taste to have her perform and then bash her 30 seconds later. But this is MTV. You really can’t expect much.

Yes, Sarah is HILARIOUS!! You have my support 100% on her.

This whole fallout is yet another pathetic symptom of our retarded attitudes these days. Everyone needs to be super sensitive and delicate with EVERYTHING; whether it’s religions, stupid celebrities, drug habits, etc. The other side of this coin is that people issue kneejerk apologies and/or go to rehab and expect it to be all better.

As for Spears- she brought this all on herself. I have zero sympathy for anyone who can’t heed good advice unless they’re mentally retarded. And…well, now that I think about it, she may be retarded. My bad.

    I love Sarah Silverman.

Anyone familiar with her act should know that she makes really inappropriate jokes. I don’t know what they expected when they slotted her to come out right after Britney’s performance, particularly after the last time when she blasted Paris.

agreed. the MTV folks had to know that EVERYone…even the chillins’, is fair game in her world. if britney allowed herself to be managed (or had a shred of business sense, or foresight), she/they would have seen this coming. but i guess its hard to focus when you live in a world of late night topless xtacy parties/random hook-ups/broken puppies/fried chicken/sticky lollipops etc…

i actually like sarah silverman better now.

Sarah Silverman is one fugly looking, UNfunny broad that looks like she hasn’t bathed in weeks. She is almost as fugly as Winehouse.
I didn’t hear anyone laughing except in her own mind.
Britney once had the looks but now just tacky with no brains…it’s a toss up

  7. Darth Paul says:

Wow, Margeretta, you really do hate Jewish people! HATE CRIMES!!!!!! Consider yourself a Mossad mark.

  8. DickieV says:

I love Sarah Silverman almost as much as I love Kathy Griffin for her jesus comment, and that’s alot. It’s comedy. Hasn’t anybody ever watched a roast?

    No, I’m sorry, you’re incorrect.

Sarah Sivlerman was not doing well at the VMAs. Her timing and delivery were off. She basically sucked but had a few highlights.

Britney is fair game because of the stupid choices she’s made. The comment about her kids was an attempt at comedy. Sarah doesn’t hate them but Britney put them in the game by putting them in harms way and in the public spot life.

It is, in fact, a toss up!

Meh, I love Sarah Silverman, I just thought she wasn’t funny at the VMA’s.
And I agree with Kiki, if anyone said that about my kids, I would’ve beat the crap out of them, but, I think, if Britney did “hear her rehearsing” She really should’ve gone out there, rocked the performance and then told Sarah to shove it up her ass. But no, in typical Brit fashion, she looked like an idiot, “danced” like crap and didn’t even know the words to lip sync to her own damn song.

  12. Holly says:

Chelsea Handler would have delivered & been funny. SS is just as lame as BS. I haven’t heard a whole lot of funny come out of her blow hole ever.

  13. Laura says:

Sarah Silverman can be hilarious, but I do think the “adorable mistakes” comment went to far. That’s more of a joke for a stand-up routine, not something that a lot of the nation saw. I know some people thought it was hilarious, but others were really offended. Not to mention the fact that it was never proven (was it?) that Britney even ever said that, wasn’t that from some anonymous source?
