Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo managed to shake off the curse of Jessica Simpson and pulled out a victory against the Carolina Panthers on Saturday. This win came much to the chagrin of Panthers fans, who taunted Tony from the stands.

The Cowboys’ 20-13 win came despite thousands of fans wearing Simpson masks (some even donned blonde wigs), and after a week of controversy following Romo’s under-performing game in Dallas attended by a pink-jersey-wearing Simpson. (According to ESPN, Simpson attended Saturday night’s game but was not seen on camera.)

In a post-game press conference, Romo discussed the Simpson drama.

“I just put tunnel vision on,” he explained. “There’s so many distractions about junk sometimes. I felt like the important thing for my team was to get myself into football mode 24/7.”

When asked if the media attention had bothered him, Romo said: “I let it roll off my back. It doesn’t really bother me. But it hurts me when it hurts the people that are close to you. Some of the journalistic integrity this week was poor in some ways.”

With the criticism of Cowboys fans (homegirl is even a Texas native) and her movie career in shambles, I’m starting to think 2007 shaped up to be an awful year for Jessica Simpson.
