Britney Spears was brought by ambulance early this morning to the UCLA Medical Center and placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold. An LA County Superior Court Judge signed the motion sending Britney to the hospital for mental observation for the next three days. According to TMZ, there is a “good possibility” that the hold will be extended to fourteen days.
Britney was reportedly cooperative in going to the hospital.
An LAPD source tells People: “Spears was escorted by police and is on her way to get help.”
“She went willingly. It was like something in her heart was telling her she should go. She knew something was wrong,” confidant Sam Lutfi tells People.
Although Sam gave quotes to the media, sources claimed there is a “dogfight” going on between Sam and Britney’s mother and father over who will make medical decisions for Britney.
TMZ has learned Britney’s parents have won round one in the tug of war with Sam Lutfi. We’re told the doctors at UCLA are now “fully cooperating” with the parents in the treatment of Britney Spears, however, the war probably is not over until a judge signs an order as to who has control.
So what brought on the hospitalization? Britney’s new psychiatrist arrived at her Beverly Hills home last night and reportedly felt Britney was a danger to herself and others because of her “downhill behavior.” The psychiatrist called the police and set the events in motion to have Britney committed.
“She was driving around her neighborhood like a mad-woman,” says a Spears family source. “Britney has been prescribed medication which she refuses to take. This is just another sad, sad evening.”
Lutfi and Spears’s father, Jamie, arrived at the hospital shortly after the singer. Her mother was later spotted leaving the Summit home with Spears’s photographer beau, Adnan Ghalib, in the backseat.
TMZ claimed Britney was calm and ready to go with cops and paramedics when the time came.
At her home earlier in the evening, we’re told Sam Lutfi informed Brit he had been working with her psychiatrist and the cops, and she would be going back to the hospital. At that point, we’re told, Lynne Spears became extremely upset and accused Lutfi of trying to control her daughter. Brit then told everyone to “shut up,” saying “I’ll do what I need to do.”
After that, Britney demanded complete silence. She sat on the floor and began passing notes to Lutfi, Adnan and others as they waited for the cops and emergency workers.
There will most likely be some sort of battle between Sam and Britney’s parents over who is in control of Britney’s medical issues, but for now, a Britney source is simply asking media and fans to “pray, please.”

I hope she does have to stay for the 14 days. And I hope it is her parents in charge of her medical decisions and not Sam.

I don’t understand how Lufti thinks he’s going to be granted authority over her family to make medical decisions.
Unless they were secretly married, he doesn’t have a leg to stand on in court.

Best quote EVER about Britney as said by a friend/source close to the ’star’:
“She has a disease. Sometimes when you see her she’s in the middle of an episode. [..making fun of her then…] It’s like mocking someone with Down syndrome.”
I find it fucking amuzing as all hell that even her friends compare her to a mongo.

Good. I hope her family is put in charge of her, I hope the hold gets extended to 14 days and I hope her family is able to get a restraining order against Sam Lufti to keep his creepy, Svengali wanna be ass away from her.

Good, my thoughts are with her. She needs help, but I hope that the court will assign an independent advocate to be in charge of her mental health decisions. It seems that her family and Lufti both kinda have their own agendas going, and perhaps wouldn’t do what’s in HER best interests.
