Last night’s Oscar ceremony failed with viewers: the ratings for the 80th Annual Academy Awards were down 21% from the previous year. Perhaps even worse, the ceremony ranked 14% lower than the least-watched ceremony ever.

I guess it was just those of us in the Oscar thread on SG watching then huh? I know nobody but me watched it in my house.
Maybe those people knew it was going to be full of sucktastic “tributes” I still can’t get over “Oscars Tribute to Binoculars” WTF?

I have to agree with Mom on this one.
Awards shows are growing exponentially lamer by the year. I quite watching them all back in 2000 and see no reason to start watching them again. They’re full of inane tributes, sap, and outright crap. The Oscars began as a recognition of Hollywood, but Hollywood is out of its own league these days. Therefore, the Oscars are little more than a trite reminder of how far Hollywood has fallen.

I think it’s because we feel the need to single out some movies as ‘important’, even if no one saw them. when a movie that was a hit gets nominated (Lord of the Rings, Titanic, etc) people tune in. simple as that.

I really, really wanted to watch and be apart of the gang but I don’t have tv. Our tv is just a base for the Wii, PS2, and dvd player. ;(

True, the average American cinemagoer is ignorant of foreign films and for La Vie En Rose to be nominated, let alone win something, confused the hell out them, not only did they not know what it was about but no one could pronounce it. Still, at least the other 3 Oscars were won by prominent Amercian actors weren’t they?
